CHICAGO, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- For the safety and comfort of its customers, United is preparing for the winter storm by canceling some flights, rebooking customers on new flights and offering a travel waiver for those who wish to change their travel plans.
United is offering suggestions to customers who may be affected by the Midwest storms and are traveling to, from, and through the following cities: Chicago; Des Moines; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Minneapolis.
Check the status of a flight on united.com before going to the airport
For customers' safety and comfort, and to recover from the storm more quickly, United will be canceling some flights and rebooking customers on new flights. Before leaving for the airport, customers can minimize any possible inconvenience by checking the status of their flights at united.com or calling 1-800-UNITED-1 (1-800-864-8331) for automated, up-to-the-minute flight arrival and departure information.

Consider changing travel plans with United's travel waiver
Customers who have not begun their trip and will be traveling to, from or through Chicago; Des Moines; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Minneapolis may make one change to their travel plans without paying change fees or meeting advance purchase requirements for the same itinerary. For a new itinerary, customers may make one change without change fees. Rescheduled travel may be subject to higher fares if it does not meet original rule and booking-code restrictions or is a new itinerary.
Customers who have already begun traveling may make one change to their return trip to, from or through Chicago; Des Moines; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Minneapolis with the rules and restrictions regarding standard change fees, advance purchases, day or time applications, blackouts and minimum or maximum stay requirements being waived. Origin and destination cities must remain the same.
These revised policies apply to all tickets purchased Feb. 24 or earlier, for travel between Feb. 24 and Feb. 25, to, from, and through Chicago; Des Moines; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Minneapolis on any United(R), United Express(R), Ted(R) or United code-share flight.
All changes must be made by midnight of the customer's original travel date.
Customers may make these changes by going to united.com, calling United reservations at 1-800-UNITED-1 or a travel agency.
Customers with already canceled flights are eligible to apply for a full refund.
United will continue to monitor the situation and adjust ticketing policies as necessary. Please check united.com for the most up-to-date information.
