Borders(R) Extends Original Broadband Programming with 'Borders Live at 01' Event Series

ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Borders introduces a new original broadband series called "Borders Live at 01," which each month will feature broadcasts of author readings, music performances and other events held at the company's first store located in downtown Ann Arbor, Mich. This new monthly series increases Borders original broadband programming that began last year with Borders Book Club discussions featuring authors such as Mitch Albom, Mireille Guiliano, and Lalita Tademy.

The premiere episodes of the new series were released today to more than 15 million Borders and Waldenbooks customers who subscribe to the Borders "Shortlist," a weekly email newsletter that highlights what's new and interesting in books, music and movies. Customers can also access the new "Borders Live at 01" series by visiting http://www.bordersmedia.com/.

The first episode features popular author Christopher Moore, who recently visited Borders Store 01 to speak and sign copies of his new book "You Suck: A Love Story." During the show, Moore visits the store's multi-media section, where he selects and talks about his favorite cult classic horror and B- movies. The second "Borders at Store 01" episode features British indie-rock band Gomez and centers on their live in-store performance of music from the band's 2006 release "How We Operate." Fans of Gomez will be particularly thrilled to hear a discussion with the band and to see band members visit the music section of the store, picking up the first CDs they ever bought and discussing the musicians they enjoy and personally know. To conclude the program is the award-winning and best-selling author, and The New Yorker writer Calvin Trillin, who discusses his latest work, a moving tribute to his wife titled "About Alice." Longtime enthusiasts of Trillin's work will enjoy viewing his reading of past articles as well as poetry he had written for The New Yorker magazine. Trillin's trademark wit and humorous writing style comes forth in this episode.

April's episodes of "Borders Live at 01" will include episodes of live performances from rock music's Rickie Lee Jones and soulful artist Paolo Nutini. Author Ishmael Beah will also be featured discussing his haunting, yet hopeful memoir, "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier."

"Borders is all about community," said Chief Marketing Officer Michael Tam. "Our broadband Borders Book Club, the new Live at 01 series and other efforts, such as social networking through Borders.Gather.com, give people who are passionate about books, music and movies a way to really explore their interests on many levels, see and hear new talents and engage in conversations with other people who share their interests. It's exciting to see Borders take the lead in creating this new level of community within the world of knowledge and entertainment."

Complementing the new broadband series is the retailer's existing Borders Book Club, which highlights some of the most interesting and important authors and books of the season. In the next Book Club episode, author Jodi Picoult will discuss her latest novel "Nineteen Minutes." Borders Book Club episodes can also be viewed at http://www.bordersmedia.com/.
