HOPKINTON, Mass., March 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EMC Corporation , the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, was the top provider of external disk storage systems for the ninth consecutive year in 2006, according to the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker, March 2007.
In addition to being number one in revenue and capacity shipped in the external disk storage systems market for 2006, EMC extended its revenue share lead over its three largest competitors and outpaced the overall market's revenue growth. Sales of EMC and co-branded EMC/Dell external disk storage systems accounted for one-third of the overall growth of the entire external storage systems market, according to researchers.
EMC's 2006 share of the worldwide networked storage market, which includes both NAS (network attached storage), Open SAN (storage area network) and iSCSI SAN, was more than double that of Hewlett-Packard and IBM, and three times Network Appliance's share. In NAS, #1 EMC extended its lead in 2006 growing twice as fast as its nearest NAS competitor and gaining nearly a ten percentage point lead.
"In 2006, EMC enhanced all of its storage platforms and again raised the bar for storage innovation," said BJ Jenkins, EMC's Senior Vice President, Global Marketing. "From feature-packed entry-level networked storage systems to the fastest midrange systems to the largest high-end systems in the world, 2006 was a milestone year for EMC. These market share results reflect a customer-focused approach to developing and delivering the most technologically advanced information infrastructure platforms available to help customers consolidate and improve management of information while lowering costs in their data centers."
Additionally, EMC announced earlier today that it was the #1 provider of storage software for the seventh consecutive year in 2006 and led the worldwide storage software market in total revenue for the 16th consecutive quarter, according to the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker, March 2007.
