NEW YORK, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Eight, inner-city, middle-school students from Flushing, NY were selected by HUMMER and the After-School All-Stars (ASAS) to spend the day at the New York Auto Show learning the ropes from a top automotive journalist. This unique opportunity brought these students deep inside the glass-and-chrome world of the newest cars and trucks.

The students were chosen from dozens of other teens by way of an essay contest -- and spent a day with Alan Taylor of Car and Driver, who is also the automotive reviewer for the Regis and Kelly show. Each student wrote an essay about why they wanted to attend the NYIAS as a journalist for the day.
Students began their day with a chauffeured ride in HUMMER vehicles from their school to the ABC Studios, home of the The Regis and Kelly show. There, they watched Taylor provide viewers with an inside look at the hottest cars at the auto show this year.
To cap off their day as journalists-in-training, the students wrote news stories about their experience at the auto show and their interviews with the publishing experts. Their stories are posted on GM's FYI blog (http://fyi.gmblogs.com/) and at the After-School All-Stars website (http://afterschoolallstars.org/).
