Oaktree Capital Management, LLC announced today that John Brady has joined Oaktree as a Managing Director and head of Oaktree's global real estate group. Brady joins Oaktree from Colony Capital, a highly-respected international real estate investment firm, where he was most recently a Principal responsible for leading Colony's North American acquisitions.
Brady commented: "I am delighted to join Oaktree. This is a unique opportunity for me to assume leadership of a strong existing real estate group and to further build upon Oaktree's extensive global investment platform." Noting that Oaktree manages over $40 billion in capital in 16 different investment strategies, Brady said: "I am particularly excited to have the opportunity to access the expertise of Oaktree's other investment disciplines, such as distressed debt and private equity, in our real estate investing activities. I look forward to working from the diverse Oaktree platform to take advantage of the opportunities that will arise out of the dislocations and corrections affecting the real estate market."
"John is a proven team-builder with extensive experience in all aspects of real estate investing," said Howard Marks, Chairman of Oaktree.
Bruce Karsh, Oaktree's President, added: "John was our first choice to lead our real estate team. In addition to significant overseas experience, having launched Colony's expansion into Asia in 1997, John has been responsible for a large number of real estate-related restructurings, portfolio acquisitions, corporate acquisitions and development transactions, including Colony's recent $5.5 billion acquisition of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and merger with Raffles Hotels and Resorts. I know John will be a great asset to Oaktree."
Brady began his career with Colony in 1991 and is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
