DENVER, May 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Frontier Airlines will launch service from Memphis, Tenn. to Denver, Las Vegas and Orlando this Saturday, May 12. All four flights will utilize Frontier's new Airbus aircraft, with 33 inches of legroom, 24 channels of DIRECTV service and four pay-per-view movie options in every seat. The Denver service provides Memphis travelers with easy connections to 20 North American cities across three countries including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Seattle, Calgary and Los Cabos. Memphis is Frontier's second Tennessee city served, following the start of Nashville service in June 2004.
"Based on the tremendous demand we have seen already in a route that has been in our system for less than three months, Memphis residents have gotten the message that they no longer need to drive to Nashville or Little Rock for low fares," said John Happ, senior vice president of marketing and planning for Frontier. "But it's not just the fares that we will offer to Memphis. With the launch of our first flights, we are going to introduce Memphis and the Mid-South to an airline that was named 'Best Low Cost Carrier' by Business Traveler magazine. We look forward to a great future of providing travelers with the industry's best customer service flying between Memphis and Denver, and to two of North America's top vacation and convention destinations: Orlando and Las Vegas."
"We are excited that Frontier has chosen Memphis for its newest route. Our city has much to offer visitors, whether they're in town to do business with top companies headquartered in Memphis or to visit the birthplace of blues, soul and rock n' roll. We know that visitors and residents all will benefit from Frontier's presence in Memphis," said Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton.
Frontier anticipates that the four daily flights will bring over 50,000 passengers through Memphis each year. This translates into more than $15 million in tourist dollars for Memphis and the surrounding cities and towns each year.
"Shelby County stands to gain a great deal from the addition of Frontier's new routes into and out of Memphis. With four new flights coming through the airport each day, Frontier's passengers will help to boost the economy at the airport and across Shelby County," added Shelby County Mayor A.C. Wharton Jr.
"Memphis International Airport serves as the gateway to cities and towns all over the Mid-South," said Larry Cox, A.A.E., president and CEO of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. "As the ninth major airline and second low-cost carrier to serve the Memphis area, Frontier's entrance into the market provides our customers with more choice and convenience when selecting destinations and adds a new level of competition to help keep fares low for travelers."
