Amata Inc., a leading edge provider of installation services for the national and international security sectors, today announced its $152M contract with Pacific Texas Pipeline & Transportation Company to provide an integrated electronic security system, electrical distribution, and generator backup for two major pipelines and four tank farms.
This two year project spans 900 miles of pipeline, with the Pacific Texas Products Pipeline ranging from El Paso, TX to Phoenix, AZ and the Havasu Products Pipeline extending from Phoenix, AZ to Las Vegas, NV. The purpose of the pipeline is to provide refined products including all levels of gasoline and jet fuel. These refined product pipelines will add to the existing 160,000 miles of interstate transmission pipelines throughout the nation today. In addition, there will be storage terminals in El Paso, TX, Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV.
According to Pacific Texas Chairman Cecil Owens: "We are looking for best of breed in physical security and electrical distribution. This project will serve as a model for future pipeline construction."
"Amata has the flexibility of a small company but the technological expertise to provide cutting edge security system solutions for large installations," said Owens. "Their response to our customer service needs, coupled with their record of success in installing and maintaining high level security projects is unprecedented in this industry."
Pacific Texas has been working with the major airports in Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV as well as a number of Air Force bases and other military concerns along the pipeline route.
After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, awareness of safeguards and security needs relative to our nation's critical infrastructure increased. Pipelines are a valuable national asset, providing the heart of the U.S. petroleum transportation system and the primary means for the delivery of refined products from refineries. The Pacific Texas Products Pipeline and the Havasu Products Pipeline will account for 220,000 barrels of refined products per day, decreasing the dependency of Nevada and Arizona, on refined products from outlying states.
"Amata is in a prime position to protect both the national and international pipeline infrastructure by utilizing state of the art technology and design" says Shawn F. Wurtsmith, President of Amata. "Raising the standards for pipeline security will include sophisticated intrusion detection, encompassing fence detection, radar, facial recognition, thermal imaging, intelligent video and closed circuit TV."
The approach to physical security is layered, that is to provide several levels of protection:
-- Barrier Protection Fencing Bollards -- Surveillance Day/Night Cameras Thermal Imaging Cameras -- Detection Motion Pressure -- Tracking Radar Intelligent Video -- Identification Facial Recognition Interactive Data Base
Additionally, Amata's electrical distribution solutions include providing uninterrupted power for security systems, pump stations, valve stations, metering stations and tank farms plus installation of transformers and generator backup systems.
Amata provides project management, installation and maintenance of electronic security systems for mission critical facilities and critical infrastructure both nationally and internationally. AMATA has obtained security clearances as required on a per project basis. Its most recent project includes the installation of an infrared pulse intrusion detection system, fiber optic infrastructure, radar, thermal imaging, closed circuit security system, and fence detection at a major domestic U.S. Air Force Base.
