SAN ANTONIO, June 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Randall Stephenson today assumed the position of chairman of the board and chief executive officer of AT&T Inc. , one of the world's leading telecommunications companies.

Stephenson, 47, succeeded Edward E. Whitacre Jr. who retired from both positions today.
