WASHINGTON, June 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WGL Holdings, Inc. , the parent company of Washington Gas and other energy-related subsidiaries, has been named among the 40 Best Companies for Diversity, according to Black Enterprise magazine. The magazine surveyed 1,000 corporations in various industries across the nation to determine the effectiveness of their diversity practices. Each company's efforts were analyzed using four key areas of measurement: suppliers, senior management, workforce and corporate board diversity.
In each of these measurement areas, WGL Holdings was named among the top 15 performers.
"We are very proud to be recognized by Black Enterprise magazine," said William Zeigler Jr., Vice President, Human Resources, for Washington Gas. "The field of companies is very impressive, and we certainly do hold this recognition as a major achievement measure for our long-standing commitment to diversity."
WGL Holdings also has been recognized as one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens by Business Ethics magazine for each of the past five years. In August 2006, Public Utilities Fortnightly also named WGL Holdings to its Fortnightly 40, which recognizes the best energy companies in the nation. "We are keenly aware of the fact that cultural diversity in the workplace utilizes our skills to their fullest, contributes to and supports our company's overall success, and builds on our desire to foster a high-performance culture," said Zeigler.
The complete list of the 40 Best Companies for Diversity is scheduled for publication in the July 2007 issue of Black Enterprise magazine. WGL Holdings salutes Black Enterprise for its continual efforts to hold the corporate community accountable to a standard of cultural diversity that serves the best interests of all parties.
