SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trident Microsystems, Inc. , a worldwide leader in the development of advanced digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that Westinghouse Digital Electronics has chosen Trident's HiDTV(TM) Pro LX ten-bit system-on-a-chip (SOC) video processor featuring the Digital Cinema Reality Engine (DCRe(TM)) to power its new family of large-screen 1080p LCD TVs. The new models, the TX-42F430S and TX-47F430S, are now shipping in major retail locations throughout North America.
"A fundamental part of Westinghouse LCD architecture is to lead the HDTV industry with dramatic differences that include a superior video path. Trident's HiDTV(TM) Pro LX 10-bit SOC enables our new large-screen 1080p LCD TVs to deliver a cinema-quality experience and feature-rich options to the mainstream home entertainment market. Westinghouse is making high-quality, large-screen LCD TVs affordable for the consumer and Trident's HiDTV(TM) Pro LX supplies the exceptional picture quality that large-screen TVs need," said Darwin Chang, CTO of Westinghouse Digital Electronics.
"We are extremely pleased that Westinghouse Digital, a leader in LCD TVs for mainstream consumers, has selected our second generation digital SOC HiDTV(TM) Pro LX for their new line-up of 1080p LCD TVs. Large-screen high-definition LCD TVs, which demand more powerful video processing, are rapidly becoming mainstream products in many markets, especially in the U.S. By adopting Trident's digital SOC solution, our customers can greatly reduce their system cost without compromising on video quality. With our built-in ten-bit DCRe(TM) video processing technology, HiDTV(TM) Pro LX delivers not only excellent de-interlacing and scaling quality, but also the exceptional quality in contrast, sharpness, and color management that are especially important for large-size displays. As our HiDTV(TM) Pro digital SOC platform and world-wide digital software stacks become more mature, we expect more and more customers will start making the transition from existing discrete solutions to our digital SOC solutions," said Dr. J.H. Chang, President of Trident Microsystems. "We are honored to have the opportunity to work closely with Westinghouse Digital to bring such fine products to market."
The HiDTV(TM) Pro LX features advanced MPEG-2 decoding, system processing and video processing features to deliver exceptional video fidelity and system functionality. The HiDTV(TM) Pro family includes:
