SAN FRANCISCO, July 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With temperatures expected to rise into the triple digits in many parts of California this week, Pacific Gas and Electric Company is reminding residential and business customers to conserve energy, starting this afternoon, in order to assist California's electric grid manager, the California Independent System Operator (ISO), in its efforts to maintain adequate power reserves in the state.
Today, ISO is urging Californians statewide to conserve during peak demand hours today (2:00 pm to 6:00 pm), citing higher demand linked to the hot weather and the loss of certain transmission and generation resources in Southern California. Conservation plays a key role in helping the California ISO balance the demand for energy with the available supply. In Northern and Central California, although PG&E expects electric supplies to be sufficient to meet the needs of its customers and provide adequate reserves, PG&E customers can help ensure that supplies remain adequate by taking simple steps, including the following:
Powerful Habits:
-- Set air conditioning thermostat at 78 degrees or higher
-- Cool with fans
-- Draw the drapes
-- Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances
-- Use big appliances early in the day or later at night
PG&E will voluntarily curtail usage at its facilities throughout northern and central California during this conservation effort.
