RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Banknote S.A. (Bovespa: ABNB3 - ON), the leader in solutions involving plastic cards, identification systems and print service management in Brazil, announces its results for the second quarter of 2007 (2Q07). The 2Q07 financial and operational information herein, except where otherwise indicated, is presented on a consolidated basis with our subsidiary Trust and in Reais, pursuant to Brazilian Corporate Law.
Highlights of the Period
* In 2Q07, EBITDA reached the record value of R$ 31.1 million, 9.5% up
on the second quarter of 2006 (2Q06), accompanied by an EBITDA margin of
28.2% in the quarter versus 27.4% in 2Q06.
* The Print Service Division presented a 30.4% growth in sales volume in
2Q07, with a 35.7% EBITDA increase when compared to the same period
in 2006.
* The ID System Division's EBITDA margin increased from 33.6% in 2Q06
to 34.9% in the same period this year.
* Increase of 11% in volume of financial cards sold and 6.5% rise in
the phone cards allowed for a 7.7% increase in the first half of the
year (1H07).
* In 2Q07, the Company paid R$ 10.9 million as Interest on Equity and
Dividends, equivalent to R$ 0.2714 per share relating to 2006.
* The acquisition of Argentina's TRANSTEX S/A., a leader in the phone card
and financial card market, paves the way for ABnote's entry into the
Latin American market.
* In July, ABnote signed a contract with Banco do Brasil, in accordance
with the bid won on 03/30/07, for manufacturing and personalization
of 1.9 million cards/month, totaling approximately R$ 138 million.
