Beaver Valley Power Plant Extinguishes Minor Fire in Switchyard


SHIPPINGPORT, Pa., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) announced today that a minor fire in the switchyard of the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station, located in Shippingport, PA, was quickly extinguished by plant personnel and local fire departments.

The minor fire occurred shortly after 4:00 pm and was contained to an oil circuit breaker which serves a local steel manufacturer. The fire was completely extinguished at 5:47 pm and no injuries were reported. No other customers were affected and there was no impact to plant operations. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 continue to operate safely at 100 percent power.

Beaver Valley is owned by Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy Corp. , and is operated by FirstEnergy's FENOC subsidiary.
