REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- eMeter Corporation, a provider of smart meter software to electric, gas, and water utilities, announced today that it has been selected to provide its EnergyIP software for use in managing data for Southern California Edison's advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project -- Edison SmartConnect. If approved by the California Public Utilities Commission, SCE plans to deploy AMI meters to 5.3 million customers over the next five years.
"Our tests confirmed that the EnergyIP software can handle detailed electric usage data for our large customer base, meeting our scaling and performance needs," said Paul De Martini, director of SCE's advanced metering program. "EnergyIP also will support many other AMI-related business processes and help to provide the customer value that is at the heart of Edison SmartConnect."
"We are thrilled by SCE's selection of eMeter, and we welcome them to our growing client base," said Cree Edwards, Chairman and CEO of eMeter. "SCE put our product through rigorous due diligence, ensuring we could meet both their short- and long-term needs. We are very gratified by the result."
eMeter developed EnergyIP specifically to support the installation, operation, and management of AMI systems and the data they generate. eMeter's software is open architecture, multi-vendor and communications technology neutral. Its Service Oriented Architecture provides support for a wide range of Intelligent Grid functions, ranging from interval metering to home area networks (HANs). Over time, SCE can continue to take advantage of new technology developments and enhancements as well, since these are readily integrated with EnergyIP.
