Wisconsin Public Service Seeks Commission Approval to Recover Electric Reliability Costs

GREEN BAY, Wis., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, a subsidiary of Integrys Energy Group, Inc. , today filed an update for its 2008 fuel costs with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW). Included in this update is a request to recover deferred and expected charges from the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, Inc. (MISO), and increased electric transmission system costs. The PSCW had earlier agreed to defer collection of some 2005-2007 MISO charges until the costs were known.

The request, if approved, would amount to an overall rate increase of 3.64 percent or about $2.03 monthly for the typical residential electric customer using 630 kilowatthours of electricity.

"The increasing demand for power on the transmission system has increased the need for the American Transmission Company LLC and other MISO transmission owners to construct new transmission facilities to assure safe and reliable delivery of power," said John Guntlisbergen, Public Service manager - electric fuel cost recovery. "Several of these transmission construction projects are nearing completion and these costs are a part of this increase request.

"We have to pay for transmission access and to have MISO coordinate the movement of electricity in our region," Guntlisbergen said. "In the long run, these payments are buying us a more-reliable electric grid to ensure our customers have power when and where they need it at reasonable prices."
