TOPEKA, Kan., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The audit committee of the Westar Energy, Inc. board of directors announced today that Jeff Beasley has been promoted to vice president, corporate compliance and internal audit. He was previously executive director, corporate compliance and internal audit.
Beasley reports directly to the audit committee, which is chaired by independent board member Michael Morrissey. The audit committee assists the board in its oversight of the integrity of the company's financial statements; the qualifications, independence and performance of the company's independent auditors; the performance of the company's internal audit function; and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Beasley joined Westar in 1976, while a student. He has both financial and operations experience. Positions held during his tenure include service as an operations manager in the Pittsburg office, director of budgets, and director of corporate finance. Most recently Beasley was executive director, corporate compliance and internal audit. In addition, Beasley led Westar's inaugural and successful effort to meet the stringent compliance requirements under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
Beasley serves on the board of directors of the YMCA in Topeka and the Pittsburg State Accounting Advisory Council. Beasley is a graduate of Pittsburg State University with a degree in business administration, accounting. He is also a certified internal auditor.
