OGE CEO Steve Moore Passes Away Unexpectedly

OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It is with great sadness that the OGE Energy Corp. family today announces the unexpected death of company Chairman and CEO Steven E. Moore. Moore, 61, had battled cancer for more than eight years.

"Oklahoma has lost a great leader," said OGE Energy Corp. President and COO Pete Delaney. "Steve was passionate about the company, its employees, the community, and his family. On behalf of everyone at OGE, we extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the entire Moore family."

Moore was a native Oklahoman born in Sayre, Oklahoma in 1946. He grew up in Altus, Okla., graduating from Altus High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1968, and a law degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1971. He also served as an officer in the United States Army Reserve from 1968 to 1974.

From 1971 until 1974, he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Oklahoma. On July 1, 1974, he joined OG&E as a staff attorney. In 1986, he was named OG&E's Vice President for Law and Public Affairs. He was responsible for the regulatory, governmental and legal affairs of the company. In 1994, he was named Senior Vice President for Law and Public Affairs.

He was named President and Chief Operating Officer of OG&E in August 1995 and elected as member of the Board of Directors in October 1995. In May 1996, he was named Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Since then, the company has joined the ranks of America's largest companies and has been a fixture on Forbes magazine's list of America's best-managed companies. The company also has been twice recognized by J.D. Power and Associates as the electric utility with the highest customer satisfaction rating in the 15-state Southern Region, and five times has won the Edison Electric Institute's highest national distinction for emergency response and assistance with disaster-related service restoration. Also five times, the company has been honored with the University Of Oklahoma's College of Health Dan J. Macer Environmental Stewardship Award.

OG&E, founded in Oklahoma City in 1902, has grown to become Oklahoma's largest utility, serving more than 755,000 customers across 30,000 square miles. Enogex, a key natural gas pipeline spanning nearly 8,000 miles, serves OG&E's gas-fired power plants and supplements OGE Energy's regional, utility-focused business strategy.

In addition to his duties at OGE Energy, Moore played an active role in many community and industry organizations. He served as Chairman of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and served on the Chamber's Board of Directors. He was a member of the Board and past chairman of the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and INTEGRIS Health, Inc. He also served on the boards of the State Fair, United Way of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University, and the Edison Electric Institute. He was Vice-Chair of Downtown OKC, Inc. and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Oklahoma Foundation as well as a past board member of the Electric Power Research Institute.

Moore is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Dan Cornell, son, Scott, and his fiancée Allie Bryce, and mother, Melda Moore of Altus.
