WINN-DIXIE, VENDORS HELP FUND FREE MAMMOGRAMS FOR UNDERSERVED WOMEN, PROMOTE EARLY DETECTION
Peter Lynch and Winn-Dixie recently grabbed the attention of the stock market when they rang the opening bell from the newly reopened store in lower east New Orleans.
During October, the company hopes to capture the attention of its customers and Associates in a different way. The company announced today a program that will donate $250,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
"Until there's a cure, the best fight against breast cancer is awareness and resources," said Robin Miller, director of communications for Winn-Dixie.
While research continues to seek a cure in the fight against breast cancer, it is well known that early detection of breast cancer through self-examination and regular mammograms is critical to winning the war against breast cancer. Unfortunately, many women do not have the medical and financial resources necessary for early detection.
"Our mission is early detection of, and education about breast cancer, each of which is crucial in this battle," said Janelle Hail, founder of the National Breast Cancer Foundation and breast cancer survivor. "The contribution from Winn-Dixie and its partners makes it possible for us to continue to help women get the care they need. We could not complete our mission, and many women would not receive proper medical attention without these generous benefactors."
The $250,000 donation from Winn-Dixie to NBCF will stay directly in Winn-Dixie's operating area and will be used for education as well as to help fund free mammograms for those in need. Participating products for "Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow," will be revealed in shelf talkers, in-store signage and the company's circular advertising.
