Congressman Joe Courtney is one of six freshmen members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressman represents the Second District of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives. Among his early legislative priorities, Mr. Courtney has sponsored bills to amend the Medicare Part D prescription drug program and to provide additional limitations on preexisting condition exclusions in group health plans and health insurance coverage in the group and individual markets.
Congressman Courtney serves on the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. Within the Armed Services committee, Congressman Courtney serves on the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces and the Military Readiness Subcommittees.
While serving in the Connecticut General Assembly, then-State Rep. Courtney concentrated on healthcare issues. He served as House chairman of both the Public Health and Human Services Committees, and was chairman of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Universal Health Insurance. Congressman Courtney is a graduate of Tufts University.
