RSNA 2007: Siemens Medical Solutions Unveils an Unprecedented Number of Leading-Edge Solutions to Help Customers Improve Patient Care and Reduce Costs

CHICAGO, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- This week, the more than 25,000 healthcare professionals expected to attend the world's largest annual medical meeting -- the 93rd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) -- will learn how Siemens Medical Solutions (http://www.siemens.com/medical) is innovating every step of its customers' workflow. Siemens will showcase a broad range of new diagnostic imaging and software solutions, while also demonstrating its new position as the world's in vitro diagnostics leader.

"At this year's RSNA, we are proving once again that Siemens is the innovation trendsetter, as we bring unique products to market that have delivered answers to our customers' questions about how to diagnose disease earlier and more accurately, improve workflow, and reduce costs," said Erich R. Reinhardt, Ph.D., member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and president and CEO of Siemens Medical Solutions. "We have strategically extended our portfolio, which now covers a broad range of solutions across the continuum of care. Being the world's first and only fully integrated diagnostics company, Siemens can offer its customers leading-edge healthcare IT, imaging and diagnostics that deliver solutions from the radiology department and the laboratory to admissions and administration."

With the Dade Behring acquisition complementing the company's existing portfolio in the field of in vitro diagnostics, Siemens now covers the entire range from near patient testing, lab automation, clinical chemistry, immunodiagnostics, to molecular diagnostics.

"This bold step is enabling us to explore new opportunities to continue our innovation leadership, lead in the development of molecular medicine solutions to personalize patient care, as well as further optimize workflow throughout the healthcare enterprise," Reinhardt said.

Trendsetting Innovations = Improved Workflow

Maximizing workflow plays a critical role in providing efficient, cost- effective, high-quality patient care, as validated in a recent industry survey* that found workflow to be one of this year's top business priorities for imaging and IT professionals, whether they were from imaging centers, or large or small hospitals. Siemens answers this need by delivering workflow solutions that are role-based, context-sensitive and knowledge-driven, providing access to tools that support quick and intelligent access to information, enabling more precise diagnosis, treatment and care.

Continuing to set the trend with groundbreaking workflow innovations, Siemens will showcase new medical imaging, IT and image and knowledge management solutions at this year's RSNA. This innovation leadership is a direct result of the company's focus on delivering market appropriate products

through customer interaction and significant investments in research and development. Highlights at this year's RSNA include:

-- Artis zeego(R) -- Today, Siemens will introduce the new Artis zeego, which features a multi-axis C-arm that employs robotic technology to extend imaging capabilities through virtually unrestricted C-arm positioning. Offering positioning flexibility not achievable with traditional C-arm systems, the Artis zeego enables off-center rotational angiography for all areas of the body and supports advanced 3D imaging techniques. -- MAGNETOM(R) Essenza -- This 1.5 Tesla (T) system opens up access to a level of diagnostic care previously unavailable in many communities. Pricing for the new Essenza can be as much as $500,000 less than other 1.5 T systems. -- MAGNETOM Verio -- This 3T system combines high field strength, a 70-cm open bore, and Total imaging matrix (Tim(TM)) technology. The Verio represents a new class of MRI technology that increases access to advanced diagnostic capabilities. -- SOMATOM Definition(TM) AS -- In computed tomography (CT), Siemens adds Adaptive Scanning (AS) to the Definition family of products. The Definition AS is able to adapt, on the fly, to a patient's clinical situation. It is available in 40-slice, 64-slice and 128-slice configurations. -- ACUSON P10(TM) -- The handheld ACUSON P10 is the world's smallest and first pocket ultrasound system. It is a little larger than a common PDA, weighs only 1.6 pounds, and fits easily into a lab coat pocket. -- ACUSON S2000(TM) Ultrasound System -- The S2000 is a platform for next-generation applications in radiology, general vascular imaging and screening, and obstetrics and gynecology. The system will also be capable of using Siemens' automated scanning solutions, such as automated breast scanning (ABS). -- MAMMOMAT(R) Novation S -- This system is a cost-effective solution for facilities that are making the transition to digital breast imaging. The MAMMOMAT Novation S optimizes workflow, utilizes the latest full- field amorphous Selenium (aSe) detectors and features Tungsten/Rhodium (W/Rh) X-ray technology, which reduces dose. -- Symbia E(R) systems -- The Symbia E single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and SPECT-CT imaging systems provide users with a high-quality imager that can lead to improved clinical confidence, reliability and versatility. The Symbia E is a versatile system that allows for upgrades as a facility's workload grows. -- syngo(R) solutions -- Providing access points to information and context-sensitive tools for radiologists, referring physicians and hospital executives, Siemens will showcase syngo portals. Through the portals, users gain access to the applications needed for their specific tasks, like syngo TrueD for computer-aided diagnosis (CAD), which provides advanced image analysis and comparison.
