Snow Alert. Birds of Prey World Cup Race Training Cancelled at Beaver Creek Today Due to Heavy Snowfall With 8 Inches on Course

BEAVER CREEK, Colo., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- A winter storm blew through the Colorado Rockies delivering a powder day with 9 inches of new snow at Breckenridge and 6 inches at mid-mountain at Beaver Creek and 8 inches on the race course as of 6 a.m. this morning. Race organizers in Beaver Creek today cancelled downhill training due to the snowfall. The Charles Schwab Birds of Prey World Cup races will begin at Beaver Creek tomorrow at 11 a.m. and continue through Sunday.

A snow and blowing snow advisory will be in effect today for Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone. Road conditions are snow-packed in the Colorado Rocky Mountains with chain restrictions in place for commercial vehicles on stretches of Interstate 70 and some of the mountain passes.

The following are the 6 a.m. mid-mountain 24-hour snow totals for the Vail Resorts' Colorado resorts. Breckenridge 9 inches Beaver Creek 6 inches Vail. 4 inches Keystone 3 inches

The snow continues to fall today and additional snowfall and chilly temperatures are forecasted through the weekend with another potent storm predicted to hit the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Today Vail Mountain expanded its terrain to 175 acres. By this weekend skiers and snowboarders should anticipate additional terrain and lift offerings at Vail Resorts' mountains.

In addition to the World Cup, Keystone kicks off its fourth annual 36 Hours of Keystone event Friday, Nov. 30 and Vail's Snow Daze is set for Dec. 3-9 with snowball eating contests and live concerts with Ziggy Marley, Social Distortion, and Ludacris and the Roots.

Guests can book two nights of lodging and two days of skiing at Beaver Creek and get a third night and third day free for just $370 per person in a two-bedroom condominium with quad occupancy Nov. 24-Dec. 18.

Beaver Creek footage shows Birds of Prey World Cup race course workers using shovels and skis to remove snow from the course after today's race training was cancelled due to snowfall. Tomorrow's Super Combined race starts at 11 a.m. The racing action continues through Sunday. Footage also includes an interview with Greg Johnson, Chief of Course for the races.

Breckenridge footage includes Breckenridge patrollers taking turns in the resort's 9 inches of snow, snowplows removing snow in town and people shoveling on Main Street.
