Broadcom Demonstrates Connected Digital Television Platform

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- 2008 International CES -- Broadcom Corporation , a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that it is demonstrating a digital television (DTV) design platform that enables connection to the web and home network, allowing consumers to access their personal videos, photos and music from their television. The connected DTV design platform also provides consumers with the ability to view video-on-demand (VoD), access internet-based TV and participate in interactive TV services. This demonstration at 2008 International CES leverages Broadcom's field-proven and leading DTV and networking technology that allows consumers to enjoy their content in the comfort and convenience of their living rooms.

With the proliferation of personal digital content, Broadcom is removing the barrier that limits content to the personal computer through the convergence of DTV and networking technology. The high definition DTV is the natural choice for consumers wanting to view and share their photos and videos from anywhere in their home with the best possible viewing experience.

To address this need, Broadcom's CES demonstration includes Best Buy's new Video Sharing service (http://www.bestbuy.com/videosharing), which provides a safe and simple way for consumers to share their home movies in a digital video form factor via the internet. The CES demonstration will show how such online services, coupled with Broadcom(R) DTV technology, provides consumers with a seamless experience that extends from the creation of content, to the actual viewing and sharing of their content with family and friends on their televisions. Broadcom's demonstration also includes streaming video from a set-top box on a home network while accessing photos from a personal computer.

"Best Buy's online video sharing service illustrates the growing way in which consumers are sharing their content today and Broadcom is enabling these consumers with new and exciting ways to easily access content directly from their televisions," said Stuart Thomson, Director of Product Marketing for Broadcom's Digital TV line of business. "Our next generation network-enabled DTV solutions exemplify Broadcom's continued leadership in multimedia convergence by providing new solutions that allow consumers to access any of their personal or broadcasted content from the comfort of their living rooms."

"We are pleased to see Broadcom extending the capabilities of customers and enabling them to share and enjoy their videos and photos, comfortably and conveniently on their televisions," said Nicola Dixon, strategy director at Best Buy for Digital Imaging. "Customers are now shooting and creating with their photos and videos in high resolution and high definition, so it is critical that we help them consume and enjoy (view and showcase) their own imaging content and creations on their digital televisions."

Broadcom will be demonstrating its new connected digital television SoC solutions within its demonstration suite (meeting room #35778) at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 7th through January 10th.
