CES 2008: Franklin Electronic Publishers Announces Availability of its New Handheld Electronic Version of Merriam-Webster's Crossword Puzzle Dictionary

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Consumer Electronics Show (CES) -- Franklin Electronic Publishers, Inc. , the innovative developer of handheld electronic reference, language learning, and test preparation devices, is excited to introduce its new electronic handheld Merriam-Webster's Crossword Puzzle Dictionary (CWP-570). Casual word puzzlers and crossword puzzle aficionados alike will appreciate the product's many features that aid in solving crossword, anagram, and jumble puzzles.

With more than 325,000 clues and answers from the third edition of Merriam-Webster's Crossword Puzzle Dictionary, word puzzle gamers will have comprehensive and relevant coverage of words, as well as names of people and places, at their fingertips. This useful handheld includes geographical and biographical references, such as cities, poets, presidents, capitals, and movie stars! Puzzlers can enter a crossword puzzle clue and the number of letters of the missing word to receive lists of associated words or can use a question mark for unknown letters to generate a list of possible solutions (enter "f?or?d?" and find "Florida").

"Now puzzlers of all ages and levels will be empowered with the most useful dictionary of its kind," said Michael Crincoli, Vice President, North American Operations. "This new electronic edition provides the easiest and fastest portable access to the most complete collection of facts that relate to those tricky clues to solve word puzzles."

The CWP-570 also features a Thesaurus with 500,000 synonyms and antonyms; Franklin's phonetic spell correction; Franklin's Confusables(R) function that takes the guesswork out of sound-a-like words that are often confused (affect versus effect); and multiple word games. This new handheld is also equipped with a high-contrast display with adjustable font sizes for customized readability.

Franklin's electronic Merriam-Webster's Crossword Puzzle Dictionary will be available at select retail outlets and at http://www.franklin.com/ beginning in the first quarter of 2008.
