Quantum DXi-Series Appliances and StorNext 3.0 Named Finalists for SearchStorage.com and Storage Magazine 2007 Product of the Year Awards

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Quantum Corp. the leading global specialist in backup, recovery and archive, today announced that its DXi(TM) disk backup data de-duplication and replication family and its StorNext(R) 3.0 data management software have recently received a total of seven global IT and storage industry honors. These accolades, highlighted by TechTarget's SearchStorage.com and Storage magazine recognition of both solutions as 2007 Product of the Year finalists, reflect the strong value proposition of Quantum's disk and software platforms.

"Quantum is pleased to be recognized by top-tier industry publications throughout the world for the benefits our disk and software solutions provide to customers in addressing their data protection, retention and management challenges," said Janae Lee, vice president of marketing for Quantum. "We look forward to building upon these achievements in the coming year as we continue to focus on further integrating our disk, software and tape offerings to deliver higher-value storage solutions."

SearchStorage.com and Storage Magazine 2007 Product of the Year Finalists

Quantum's DXi-Series and StorNext 3.0 were chosen as SearchStorage.com and Storage magazine 2007 Product of the Year finalists by a panel of judges and TechTarget editors out of a field of more than 200 products submitted in five award categories.

Quantum's DXi3500 and DXi5500 appliances were among eight products selected in the Backup Hardware category. According to the announcement in SearchStorage.com, "Data deduplicating VTLs became one of the hottest storage products on the market in 2007, so much so that storage vendors began packing in more features to further differentiate their products. Quantum's DXi-Series adds automated replication of deduplicated data over the WAN. The products can be managed along with physical tape through centralized management software also available from Quantum."

Quantum's StorNext 3.0 was among eleven products chosen in the Storage Management Software category. In recognizing the product, the finalist announcement stated, "StorNext enables systems to share a high-speed pool of images, media content, analytical data and other digital assets so files can be processed and distributed faster. Version 3.0 leverages Quantum's iMover technology to move and copy data between performance disk, value disk, tape libraries and network attached resources. This enables users to archive files for and make copies of files for automated data protection." The announcement also referenced StorNext's Data Reduction Storage, a specialized disk tier that integrates Quantum's data de-duplication technology.

DXi7500 Named a Byte and Switch Top Storage Product of 2007

Adding to the recognition for Quantum's DXi-Series portfolio, Byte and Switch recently named Quantum's DXi7500 enterprise disk backup and replication system with data de-duplication technology among the top storage products of 2007 -- products that are "disruptive to the status quo" and positioned to "change the everyday lives of storage managers." The publication highlighted the DXi7500's policy-based approach to data de-duplication, believed to be the first offering of its kind.

According to Byte and Switch editor Mary Jander, "de-duplication is one of the hottest topics in the storage universe, and Quantum's approach gives customers the flexibility to deploy two different approaches. In the future, this kind of platform is more likely to serve customers who are weary of pitches on in-or out-of-band technobabble and ready to deploy de-duplication in a variety of ways."
