The ten-term Texas congressman stated in the introduction to his Family Education Freedom Act that "parental control of child rearing, especially education is one of the bulwarks of liberty. No nation can remain free when the state has greater influence over the knowledge and values transmitted to children than the family.
"As a lifelong Alaskan who has been homeschooled since first grade on, I urge you to consider supporting a man who takes seriously the fact that government should not interfere with what parents and parents alone can do best; raise their children, said Alaska Homeschoolers for Paul state coordinator Tait Zimmerman. - Authored Family Education Freedom Act, allowing parents a tax credit of up to $5,000 per student per year to offset costs of education.
- Will guarantee parity for home school diplomas and advancement of equal scholarship consideration for home schooled high school graduates.

- Will veto any legislation that creates national standards or national testing for home school parents or students.
