Allstate Champions Teen Driving Initiatives With Cast of Girlfriends

NORTHBROOK, Ill., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens, taking the lives of nearly 6,000 teens every year and injuring 300,000 more. Allstate Insurance Company is committed to helping stop this epidemic and recently joined forces with the popular CW network show "Girlfriends" to integrate an important message about teen safe driving into an upcoming episode.

The episode is set to debut on Monday, February 11, at 8:00 p.m. CST and will include a scene between mother Maya Wilkes (played by Golden Brooks) and son Jabari Wilkes (played by Kendre Berry) that will include dialogue about the risks and responsibilities associated with teen driving. In addition, the characters will specifically talk about Allstate's Parent Teen Driving Contract. The episode is slated to run again on March 9.

Allstate hopes the scene will resonate with families across America, particularly among African Americans, as according to the Centers for Disease Control, 13.4% of African American teens fail to wear seatbelts compared to Caucasian teens (9.4%).

In addition, the 30-second version of Allstate's "Tail Lights" commercial will air during this episode. "Tail Lights" is the company's teen safe driving commercial, set to the tune of "From Where You Are," a song written and performed by Jason Wade, lead singer of the popular band Lifehouse, specifically for this spot. Wade wrote the song based on his own experience with losing a teenage friend in a car accident several years ago.

"Allstate developed the Parent Teen Driving contract knowing that it would serve as an important and useful tool to start this important conversation between parents and their teens," said Lisa Cochrane, Allstate's vice president of marketing. "Being able to weave that important message into a popular TV show like this is just one way Allstate is working to reach consumers in every way that we can. We want to save lives and we hope creative integration like this helps us do that."

An interactive version of Allstate's Parent Teen Driving contract is available on http://www.allstate.com/teen and enables parents and teens to interact with the contract and customize the rules and consequences. The site features facts and statistics about dangers on the road, as well as guidelines for starting the conversation about safe driving and, together with their teens, establishing rules to address key driving dangers.
