Zilog Marks New Milestone in Global Secure Transactions

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zilog, Inc. a leading provider of 8-, 16- and 32-bit embedded Flash microcontrollers, universal remote control and ARM(R) core-based solutions, today strengthened its leadership in the rapidly growing secure transactions marketplace by reporting that China's PAX Technology LTD has cleared PCI PED certification for its new S80 POS terminals with Zilog's new 32-bit ARM(R) core-based family of Application Specific Standard Products (ASSPs) for its next-generation global electronic funds transfer (EFT) Point-of-Sale (POS) payment systems. PAX Technology is one of China's leading suppliers of innovative electronic payment terminal solutions. In an age of increased fraud and security breaches, PCI PED certification is a rigorous banking and financial industry security standard that must be cleared by all suppliers of EFT POS payment systems.

Founded in 2000, and based in Shenzhen, China, PAX Technology Ltd. (PAX) has a strong reputation for delivering high quality, reliable, and secure products to clients and customers worldwide. This has helped create a strong demand for its POS terminals and wireless products in its home nation. The company also has a rapidly growing presence in the global marketplace.

According to Darin G. Billerbeck, president and chief executive officer, Zilog, "The relationship with PAX marks another major milestone for our company in the POS arena and in the Asia region where we have begun to drive support and explore key opportunities with many of China's innovators like PAX. Our new Zatara(TM) ARM(R) core based 32-bit single-chip solution has gained significant traction in terms of customer penetration and design wins because of technology differentiation that allows our customers to attain greater system performance and security."

"We are pleased to pursue our long term relationship with Zilog on its new Zatara(TM) 32-bit single-chip solution," commented Thomas Xu, vice president of marketing, PAX Technology, Ltd. "Zilog's PCI PED compliant POS solutions have enabled us to integrate more easily, and speed time-to-market while satisfying the performance and security requirements of our new wireless handset and countertop POS terminal and secure PIN Pad products."

"That PAX Technology has passed PCI PED certification with our innovative new Zatara(TM) platform is a reflection of the growing success we are experiencing in the marketplace," noted Keith Bladen, vice president of marketing, Zilog. "PAX Technology, like Zilog, is an innovator in its own right in the growing field of secure transactions. Our highly integrated Zatara(TM) platform is not only PCI PED and EMV Level 1 compliant, but our solution also offers the 'best in the industry' levels of security, performance and cost advantages. We are meeting the growing security and infrastructure needs of the Chinese market and indeed the global marketplace, which we believe will further strengthen our leadership in the secure transaction arena."
