National Spokeswoman Eva Longoria Parker to Accept $200,000 Donation From AT&T to Benefit PADRES Contra El Cancer

BURBANK, Calif., March 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. today announced a $200,000 donation to PADRES Contra El Cancer (PADRES) national spokeswoman Eva Longoria Parker to benefit the organization. PADRES is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children who are battling cancer.

"We are extremely grateful for AT&T's generosity and commitment to PADRES and the Latino community," said Parker, actress and PADRES national spokeswoman. "The money AT&T raised will help us continue supporting families coping with the devastating effects of childhood cancer."

The donation is the result of AT&T's second annual Answer Hope's Call campaign, which consisted of a fundraising effort to increase awareness of childhood cancer and collect donations from customers at select retail stores in the Greater Los Angeles area. The campaign also included a bone marrow drive, which set a national record for a single-day drive by adding 253 new donors to the National Bone Marrow Program(R).

"AT&T has a long-standing tradition of supporting charitable organizations and initiatives that strengthen the Hispanic community," said Andy Shibley, vice president and general manager of AT&T's Greater Los Angeles wireless market. "Nearly 50 percent of the children suffering from cancer in California are Hispanic, and PADRES provides critical support for families that need it most."

Cancer affects approximately 1,500 children annually in California; nearly 50 percent of those children are Latino. Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among children under 15 years old and is second only to accidents in most age groups.

Other companies involved in the partnership include Univision/KMEX Channel 34 and the Los Angeles Avengers, the local Arena Football League team.

To date, AT&T has donated approximately $500,000 to PADRES to aid in the organization's mission. For more information about PADRES, visit http://iamhope.org/.
