NASHVILLE, Tenn., Mar. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Nissan and Infiniti are conducting a voluntary recall campaign on 480 Hitch Mounted Bicycle Racks (Nissan / Infiniti part number 999R5-AR000) manufactured by Thule and sold at both Nissan and Infiniti dealerships before December 21, 2007. Thule determined a pinch point exists on the bicycle rack that could cause a serious hand injury.
Nissan and Infiniti are attempting to identify and alert affected customers. Nissan customers can contact Nissan Consumer Affairs at 1-800-NISSAN1 to receive a free retrofit kit and installation instructions. Infiniti customers can contact Infiniti Consumer Affairs at 1-800-662-6200 to receive the same materials. In addition, Thule has setup a dedicated recall hotline at 1-800-848-5391 (http://www.thuleracks.com/recall.asp) for owner inquires regarding the recall.
The recall affects only Hitch Mounted Bicycle Racks (Nissan / Infiniti part number 999R5-AR000) manufactured by Thule before June 27, 2007 and sold at either Nissan or Infiniti dealerships before December 21, 2007. If you think you own one of the affected Hitch Mounted Bicycle Racks, STOP USING IT and call 1-800-NISSAN1 or 1-800-662-6247 to receive a free retrofit kit.
Bicycle racks being currently sold by either Nissan dealers or Infiniti dealers are not affected by this recall.
