WICHITA, Kan., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- More than 175 volunteers from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Communities in Schools will spend this Saturday, April 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., painting, planting vegetable gardens and other projects at the Old Cowtown Museum as part of Royal Caribbean's 11th annual G.I.V.E. Day.
G.I.V.E., which stands for "Get Involved Volunteer Everywhere," is a community service event that brings together Royal Caribbean employees, their families, friends, vendors and business partners to assist non-profit organizations and improve the quality of life in their local communities. The volunteers will be painting and planting vegetable gardens at The Old Cowtown Museum, a 57-year old landmark that offers an interactive learning experience through education programs and historic reenactments. At the museum, visitors can tour the grounds and chat with the costumed interpreters.
"Our company is committed to supporting and helping our local communities," said Mike Semler, director, Reservations and Loyalty Services, Celebrity and Azamara Cruises. "We hope the personal satisfaction and fun of assisting our neighbors on G.I.V.E. Day will help inspire our participants to pursue volunteer and public service opportunities throughout the year."
Royal Caribbean G.I.V.E. Day volunteers and Community in Schools children and staff will help prepare and plant the museums' four vegetable gardens. The gardens will be partially maintained by students from the Junior Job Training Program of Wichita. Volunteers will also help with other grounds clean-up projects and will assist with painting several buildings. These projects will benefit the museum by assisting their small staff with these important and laborious tasks.
Now in its 11th year, G.I.V.E. Day is an example of how the more than 40,000 Royal Caribbean employees give back to their communities around the world, by donating thousands of volunteer hours to assist their communities with neighborhood development, civic drives, environmental improvement and disaster recovery.
Similar G.I.V.E. Day events are also being planned for and will take place in Miami, Florida; Anchorage, Alaska; Seattle, Washington; Baltimore, Maryland; Springfield, Oregon; London, England; and Barcelona and Madrid, Spain.
