'Music For Myanmar' Cyclone Benefit Concert

WASHINGTON, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- National and International media celebrities are organizing an all ages benefit concert for the Myanmar cyclone victims and survivors on May 18 at The Rock and Roll Hotel & 1353 H Street NE in Washington D.C.

Recent reports of the ruling Myanmar military junta blocking relief items arriving via Thailand from reaching victims and survivors promoted the event organizers to route all funds raised from the May 18th concert event to the American Red Cross' International emergency response to the Myanmar cyclone. "The relationship we have forged with the American Red Cross insures that the funds we will be raising are going to make it directly to cyclone victims," said Dee Dee Grucelski, co-event organizer of "The Music for Myanmar Concert Event." "The most important thing for the public to remember is that regardless of the ruling Myanmar junta, it is the responsibility of people around the world to come together to help the cyclone victims and survivors whose lives are forever changed by this catastrophic event. Our ability to speak to the people of America and the world as well as gather some of the most talented compassionate performers is just one way in which we can all help," said "Zoltar" co-event organizer and performer at the May 18th event.

Seven hours of acoustic and full band performances, a silent auction featuring limited edition art by "artist to the stars" Bill Rock, sport celebrities and autograph signing as well as authentic Burmese food and DJ Zoltar from XM and Worldspace Satellite Radio will spin music between sets. Initial performers who have signed include Niki Barr, Shane Hines, Olivia and the Housemates, Jim Dugan, Prozakistan, The Opposite Sex, Spencer Bates, Zoltar and KGB. Tickets are $15.00 and available in advance online at http://www.rockandrollhoteldc.com/, or by calling 202 388 ROCK, or at the door on May 18th.

"We are committed to fundraising well beyond the event itself with a public service campaign that is in place for our WorldSpace and XM Channels as well as the possibility of a "Music for Myanmar" digital album to be made available for download," said Ted Kelly, co-event organizer.

The "Music for Myanmar" concert begins at 6 PM ET and UPop 29, the global pop music channel will broadcast live via XM Satellite Radio in America and worldwide via WorldSpace Satellite Radio, enabling the event to be heard across the planet, including the regions affected by cyclone Nargis. U-Pop can also be heard on the Internet at XM Radio Online, DirecTV music channel 824. Event hosts are Ted Kelly, Dee Dee Grucelski, & Zoltar of XM and WorldSpace, along with Rob Timm of WRNR Radio.
