New Study Answers Key Questions About the Sexes and Relationships

DEERFIELD, Ill., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Is it OK to hit on your friend's sister? Should you tell the truth about past relationships? Does your drink choice enhance your social magnetism?

With a certain highly anticipated "chick flick" set to hit theaters May 30 -- and a national tide of pink cocktails expected to follow -- Canadian Club(R) Whisky (CC) is helping men get answers to some questions that are common topics of bar conversation. CC commissioned a survey of 515 American men and women to find out what the sexes really think about relationships and each other and to remind men that they can count on classic whisky cocktails to express masculine sophistication and style.

Do Men Have to Go to "That" Movie?

Many women are eagerly awaiting the opening of the movie that inspired the pink martini trend, but 41 percent of men surveyed said they "would not be caught dead at that movie." Some men may give in and go anyway. However, should one find himself pressured into attending, he needn't feel pressured to follow the pink drink fad at the bar afterward. A classic drink in a rocks glass is more likely to get women's attention since 43 percent of women surveyed said men with such drinks in hand are more "masculine and sophisticated."

"Men don't have to compromise at the bar -- they can take a stand and look sophisticated by choosing a classic cocktail, like a CC Manhattan, an Old Fashioned or a CC and Ginger," said Mike Ginal, Canadian Club brand manager. "Canadian Club is encouraging men to reaffirm their masculinity and not be swept up with the next big flavored-cocktail trend. And as they enjoy their classic cocktails, they can now be armed with information that might help them with the ladies."

Do Manners Make the Man?

There's no question some women are attracted to "bad boys" -- rebels who don't follow conventional rules. But it turns out that good manners could actually help men get dates, with 86 percent of women saying "men with good manners are more physically attractive than those without manners."

The survey also revealed that one of the most offensive "bad manners" that can erase a man's appeal is hitting on a friend's sister, mom or other family member, with 72 percent of women saying it is unacceptable to do so. Having a "cheat sheet" of "permissible" celebrities to cheat with, if given the chance, also gets a thumbs-down, with 85 percent of women and 75 percent of men saying they do not have such a list.

How Much Does Money Count?

Good graces aren't everything. Bling speaks loud and clear, too. A total of 60 percent of women say that women judge men on material possessions such as cars, clothing and accessories. But men seem to be even more conscious of material possessions, with 73 percent guessing that women are judging them on such things.

Will He Call? Will She Answer?

And while 35 percent of male respondents admit to having taken a girl's phone number with no intention of calling, it turns out that 46 percent of women have given a guy a fake number anyway. Man up and take your chances.

Is It Crucial to Be "Hot"?

Men and women looking for trusting relationships shouldn't fret too much over their looks. When it comes to being trustworthy, being "hot" appears to be a liability, with 35 percent of men saying they trust average-looking women, 31 percent saying they trust unattractive women and 26 percent saying they trust good-looking women. Conversely, 25 percent of women say they trust average-looking men, 22 percent say they trust unattractive men while only 13 percent trust good-looking men.

But looks seem not to matter to many, with 46 percent of women saying they have dated someone they didn't find attractive, and 40 percent of men saying the same.

What Does He/She Really Do at Work?

Do you know that old saying "Don't dip your pen in the company ink"? Nearly half of men ignore it. A total of 48 percent of men said they have dated a coworker, while 26 percent said they have had a one-night stand with a coworker. By comparison, 43 percent of women have dated a coworker and just 16 percent admit to a one-night stand with someone from the office.

Guys, don't pretend to be an investment banker if exterminator is really the gig. One quarter of men said they have lied to pick up someone at a bar, while just 12 percent of women said they have done the same.

What Would Dad Do?

Sixty-nine (69) percent of men said they are proud to be compared to their fathers. That's probably because two-thirds (68 percent) of Americans think their Dad is or was cool. So CC couldn't help but wonder whether dad would say no to the fruity, pink cocktail trend. Damn right, he would.
