McGraw-Hill Construction's Architectural Record Announces 2008 Advertising Excellence Awards at AIA 2008 Convention

BOSTON, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Architectural Record, McGraw-Hill Construction's prestigious monthly publication, the magazine of The American Institute of Architects (AIA), and part of The McGraw-Hill Companies , today presented its 12th annual Advertising Excellence Awards to 33 companies and agencies in recognition of the most effective ads in the building and design marketplace. The awards breakfast hosted 290 architects, manufacturers, editors, marketers and industry leaders, including the AIA's EVP and CEO Christine McEntee, at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel during the AIA 2008 National Convention and Design Exposition.

"Best of Show - Double-Page Spread" winners included Armstrong Ceiling Systems and Zban Advertising for "Infusions Accent Canopies" on cover 2, page 1 of Architectural Record's January 2008 issue; ERCO Leuchten GmbH and Electric Gobo for "Tune the Light" on pages 10-11 of the March 2008 issue; and Hunter Douglas Contract and DMD for "Contract-Vision" on pages 18-19 of the March 2008 issue. "These advertisements embody the insight, community, creativity, values and passion required for excellence in architecture and advertising," said Laura Viscusi, publisher of Architectural Record. "They provide a view of what's new and what works well."

Winners for "Best of Show - Single Page" included The American Institute of Architects and Giant Ideas for "Walk the Walk" on page 204 of the January 2008 issue; National Gypsum Company and Luquire George Andrews for "New Gold Bond Brand" on page 140 of the February 2008 issue; Sage Electrochromics, Inc. and Falls Agency for "Intense Intense Ingenious" on page 31 of the March 2008 issue; and Sloan Valve Company and Interline Creative Group, Inc. for "Ecos" on page 31 of the January 2008 issue. "It's hard to make plumbing sexy," said the jury panel about the Sloan ad. "Its use of a similar background color and simple text make this ad quite arresting visually."

Other winning companies and agencies for spreads included Armstrong Ceiling Systems and Zban Advertising; Birdair, Inc. and Larson O'Brien; Hunter Douglas Contract and DMD; and Oldcastle Glass and Brian J. Ganton & Associates. Single page winners named were AS Hanging Systems; Benjamin Moore & Company; Boyd Lighting; Dupont Building Innovations and Ogilvy; PPG Industries, Inc. and Blattner Brunner; Rixson Specialty Door Controls; Rocky Mountain Hardware and Burchiellaro Design; SteelDoor Institute and O'Neill Marketing Strategies, Inc.; TOTO USA; and Whirlpool Corporation and Miller Brooks.
