Food 4 Less Continues Fight to Help End Hunger in America

CHICAGO, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its ongoing leadership in the fight against hunger, Food 4 Less, a division of The Kroger Co., invites customers to join in "Bringing Hope to the Table," a two-week campaign running this month in every store to support America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

With the help of numerous vendor partners, "Bringing Hope to the Table" is expected to generate cash and food donations to assist local food banks in communities where Food 4 Less customers and associates live and work.

Every time customers purchase participating items in Food 4 Less stores from June 8 through June 21, they will be showing their support for food banks in their own community.

The hunger relief campaign includes products made by Kellogg's(R), Keebler(R), P&G(R), Kraft(R), Nabisco(R), Pepsi(R), Nestle USA(R), and brands represented by Acosta Sales and Marketing. A number of the company's own corporate brands, including Private Selection items, are also included in the fund-raising effort.

"As one of the largest retail grocers in the country, Food 4 Less is committed to the fight to end hunger in America," said Dave Hirz, President of Food 4 Less. "Food banks and hunger agencies across the country are facing unprecedented demand. 'Bringing Hope to the Table' allows our customers, associates and vendors to drive funds to food banks in the communities we all share."

Kroger and its family of stores have helped lead the fight against hunger in the United States for more than 25 years. In the past five years, the Company has donated nearly 140 million pounds of food and groceries, valued at more than $210 million, to food banks across the country. In addition to food, Kroger's family of stores contribute products such as toiletries and cleaning supplies -- items families and individuals relying on food banks request most often after food. In 2007, Kroger was selected "Retailer of the Year" by America's Second Harvest, the fifth time in seven years the Company has received the award.

America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network is the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. Through its network of more than 200 member food banks, America's Second Harvest annually provides assistance to more than 25 million people in need, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Each year, America's Second Harvest secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products to support feeding programs at approximately 50,000 local charitable agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, and Kids Cafes.
