Linda A. Capuano, PhD, to Join Marathon Oil Company as Vice President, Emerging Technology

HOUSTON, June 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Marathon Oil Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation , announced today that Linda A. Capuano, PhD, will be joining the Company as vice president, Emerging Technology, effective June 23.

Marathon's Emerging Technology organization will provide an increased focus on renewable and alternative fuels, energy efficiency, carbon intensity, and carbon capture and sequestration. It also will provide strategic insight regarding emerging technologies across the energy landscape that will identify both challenges facing Marathon's core business as well as new investment opportunities.

Capuano has been senior vice president, Design and Engineering Services at Solectron Corporation in Milpitas, Calif., where she led an international team which designs and delivers products to medical, consumer, set top box, kiosks, industrial, aerospace and automotive customers. Prior to that, she was executive vice president and chief technology officer of Advanced Energy in Fort Collins, Colo., a manufacturer of equipment for semiconductor and solar applications. She worked for AlliedSignal Aerospace and Honeywell International where she was named corporate vice president, Technology Strategy for Honeywell in 2001. Capuano was co-founder and vice president, Operations and Business Development for Conductus in Sunnyvale, Calif., delivering superconducting electronic products for wireless communications and digital electronic applications from 1988 until 1995, and previously she worked for the IBM computer and storage business in San Jose, Calif. Capuano received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from State University of New York at Stony Brook; a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder; and a master's degree in engineering management and a doctorate in material science from Stanford University.

She is an elected National Associate member of the National Academy of Sciences, a lifetime position recognizing contributions to the U.S. in advising science and technology policy, and as such has participated on numerous advisory boards and committees. Capuano currently serves on the Board of Governors of the California Independent System Operator, which operates that state's wholesale power grid.
