Lowe's Supports United Way Midwest Flood Recovery Fund

MOORESVILLE, N.C., June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lowe's stores across the Midwest are serving as official cash donation sites for the United Way 2008 Midwest Flood Recovery Fund to support long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts to areas devastated by the recent floods. Through July 21, 2008, Lowe's will match in-store customer donations up to a total of $100,000. Donations to the fund will help the Red Cross provide immediate needs such as food and shelter and longer term recovery efforts of local United Ways.

"Lowe's is a long-time, valued and committed partner of the United Way. Their support is essential in our ability to respond to disasters such as the storms and floods in the Midwest," said Mary Kay Leonard, Group Vice President of Investor Relations at United Way of America. Participating Lowe's stores include those in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

"Home and family are an individual's most important assets, and Lowe's is dedicated to assisting families affected by the flood during this difficult time," said Larry D. Stone, chairman of the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. "The Lowe's customer donation program will help United Way provide both immediate and long-term relief to get communities back on their feet after a disaster."

Lowe's stores have worked with the United Way for more than 20 years on a variety of projects including disaster relief, product donation and donations to the annual campaign. In 2007, Lowe's supported the United Way with more than $1.4 million in contributions.
