CNX Gas Reaches Three Million Man-Hour Mark Without a Lost-Time Incident

PITTSBURGH, July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CNX Gas Corporation has reached the three million man-hour mark without a lost-time incident, marking the company's 14th consecutive year without a lost-time incident.

"This is a milestone for which every employee can take credit," said CNX Gas President and Chief Executive Office Nicholas J. DeIuliis. "We are fortunate to employ an exceptionally well-trained and conscientious workforce. Our employees understand that productivity and results are inextricably linked with safe performance."

At CNX Gas, safety is a commitment made day in and day out, according to DeIuliis, who continued by saying that safety is more than the bottom line. "Working safely also means our employees are able to go home safely to their families each and every night," he said.

In an industry where a safe track record sets apart one company from the rest, CNX Gas excels. J. Michael Onifer, senior vice president of established business units, echoed DeIuliis' thoughts. "The lowest cost, most efficient, and most profitable companies are also the safest operators," he said, adding that safety is a condition of employment at CNX Gas for new and existing employees alike.

"If you can't pledge to work safely at CNX Gas, you won't work for us," Onifer said.

Earlier this year, CNX Gas adopted an "Absolute ZERO" initiative, that means nothing above a zero incident rate is acceptable and where safety trumps everything else. It trumps production, it trumps profits, and it trumps all other rules, policies or procedures.

"Safety is inherent in everything we do," DeIuliis said. "It's tied directly to productivity and rate of return. It also reinforces our 'best in class' status. We have the best raw assets in the exploration and production industry, we are one of the highest margin producers, and we are the safest operator. Low unit costs and the record production we achieved in the first quarter of this year can all be tied to our safe, productive employee base."

CNX GAS CORPORATION is an independent natural gas exploration, development, production and gathering company operating in the Appalachian and Illinois basins of the United States. CNX Gas is the leading Appalachian gas producer and believes it is the number one capturer of methane in the energy industry. CNX Gas recently joined the Chicago Climate Exchange as an offset provider and was named a semi-finalist by the Financial Times/Citi Private Bank in their first-ever Environmental Awards. Nicholas J. DeIuliis, President and Chief Executive Officer, received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year(R) 2007 Award. CNX Gas has also been featured in such publications as Business Week, American Executive, Smart Business Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Business Times. CNX Gas was recently listed as one of the Best Places to Work in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
