When married couples reach the 20-year mark, traditional gifts are china, platinum and emeralds. As Mach 1 Global Services, Inc. hits 20 years as a multi-national air cargo freight forwarder, logistics and supply chain services provider, these symbols are equally meaningful -- in a whole different way.
CHINA signifies the company's rapid early advancement into the global arena by developing an Asian transportation network. According to Jamie Entzminger, President, "We wanted to ensure that our customers could capitalize on the labor, materials and commodities that China offered while minimizing the risks in quality and brand erosion. Through oversight and quality control, we mitigate the riskiest factors of doing business in China."
Since 2006, Mach 1 has opened field offices and established strategic partnerships throughout Asia, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and five other major industrial cities. Entzminger adds, "From a strong start in Mexico 18 years ago, we've expanded our global operations to anticipate customer needs."
In anticipation of these needs, Mach 1 recently installed proprietary software that pinpoints a shipment's location at any juncture from manufacture to final destination. Large screen plasma displays in customer service and national account control centers display real time dispatch and operation data. Entzminger explains, "At our annual Customer Advisory Meetings, our clients helped us design an online system that would allow them to book a shipment, track and trace it worldwide, pull reports, request a quote and view invoices all with the click of a button. We can now provide this in a customized form to meet their specific needs."
PLATINUM marks the sponsorship level Mach 1 Global is providing for the national organization Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), a national non-partisan group dedicated to making women's voices heard on the political front. As one of a handful of female presidents in the transportation industry, Entzminger will be a key player at WIPP's upcoming national conference through her support of the Elizabeth Dole Young Entrepreneurs Scholarship Program which brings four young women business owners from across the country to compete for this national award.
EMERALD symbolizes the company's deep commitment to environmental stewardship. Last month, Mach 1 Global became a partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay program, an innovative, voluntary collaboration designed to improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save fuel and protect public health. By 2012, the Partnership aims to create fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of oil annually. Through independent initiatives prior to joining the program, Mach 1 Global conserved 35,000 gallons of diesel fuel last year alone. As a SmartWay participant, Entzminger anticipates the company will conserve an additional 30% over the next three years through environmental efficiencies, office energy savings and self-regulation.
All of these initiatives have provided Mach 1 Global with significant business success as well. With projected revenues exceeding $100 million, the firm employs 60 in Arizona and 275 worldwide.
As Arizona's largest freight-forwarder, Mach 1 Global is the recipient of countless quality and customer care awards that validate its global excellence. The key to their success, according to Entzminger, is easy to define, "As we look back on the past 20 years and forward to the next 10, our Mach 1 Global family of employees continue to be our most valuable asset."
Underscoring the importance of employee contribution during the company's two decades of success, Chairman and CEO Mike Entzminger has attended corporate events and met with staffers at each of the company's 20 U.S. field offices over the past 4 months. This month is dedicated to celebrating the company's 20th year anniversary at its Tempe headquarters.
