MTV Networks Wins Four Imagen Awards

NEW YORK, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- MTV Networks (MTVN), a unit of Viacom , took home four Imagen Awards during a ceremony in Beverly Hills on August 21:

-- "Best Television Actor:" Carlos Mencia, of COMEDY CENTRAL's "Mind of Mencia"

-- "Best on Air Advertising:" MTV's "Tu Pride: Silvestre" campaign

-- "Best National Informational Programming:" Nickelodeon's "Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: I'm American, They're Not"

-- "Best Children's Programming:" Nickelodeon's "Go, Diego, Go!"

The awards recognize the influential presence of Latinos in the television, film and advertising industries, while encouraging positive and accurate portrayals of Latino characters and storylines.

"Diversity and inclusion are part of the DNA of MTV Networks; it drives our success and our goals both onscreen and off," said Judy McGrath, MTVN Chairman and CEO. "We are thrilled and honored to receive this recognition from Imagen."

In "Mind of Mencia," Carlos Mencia skewers the current and the cultural, putting controversial issues through his own filter to make the topics funny and relevant via monologues, man-on-the-street interviews and interaction with the studio audience. Since its premiere in July 2005, "Mind of Mencia" has taken on issues such as ethnic stereotypes, race relations, immigration, war and family.

"Tu Pride" is a series of unscripted, mini-documentaries featuring young Latinos who are making a positive change in their communities and in the world. The real people featured in the campaign are reflective of MTVN viewers: all are a new generation of leaders, making their mark in some way. From law students to artists to military personnel, "Tu Pride" is all about the culture, lifestyles and experiences of today's Latino youth.

The Nick News with Linda Ellerbee special "I'm American, They're Not," took an in-depth look at the complex lives of children born in the United States to undocumented immigrants. The kids are American citizens, but the parents are not and are subject to deportation.

"Go, Diego, Go!" follows the adventures of eight-year-old bilingual animal rescuer, Diego. In each episode, Diego receives a call for help at his Animal Rescue Center in the rainforest. With help from his friends, high-tech gadgets and viewers at home, Diego identifies and locates the animal in trouble and the adventure begins. Diego's cousin Dora also makes guest appearances in the series.
