The U.S. Department of State has awarded DynCorp International (NYSE:DCP) a contract to establish a humanitarian Quick Reaction Force (QRF) to respond globally to urgent humanitarian operations that require the removal or mitigation of explosive hazards to protect civilian populations. Under the contract, awarded by the State Department Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, DynCorp International will maintain a team of technical experts available to deploy worldwide to implement solutions to threats posed by conventional weapons, unexploded ordnance, landmines and other explosive hazards, and recommend steps to protect victims of conflict and to restore access to land and infrastructure. Once notified by the U.S. government, an assessment team will deploy in 72 hours or less, and can be followed within 14 days of request by a team of technical experts to carry out threat mitigation and abatement activities.
The contract has a value of $2.4 million for the base year, and an estimated value of $12 million over five years if all options are exercised.
In separate task orders awarded under a State Department indefinite quantity/indefinite quality (ID/IQ) contract for weapons removal and abatement, DynCorp International will assist the governments of Yemen, Estonia and Vietnam by providing supplies and services to enhance indigenous Humanitarian Mine Action capabilities. The total value of these task orders is more than $800,000. In addition, DynCorp International personnel are presently in Georgia concluding an assessment of unexploded ordnance hazards as a result of the most recent Georgia-Russia conflict.
