SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp company, has been awarded a contract for the Kill Vehicle (KV) Commonality Pathfinder Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) from the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
The Aerojet propulsion system is designed to control the KV by firing individual thrusters to control the KV while homing for an intercept with a ballistic missile or its warhead. Under this contract, Aerojet will design, build and integrate a test KV DACS in order to increase government understanding of contractor DACS development capabilities and component technical maturity.
The DACS system and component technical maturity will be demonstrated in a future static hot-fire test and subsequent integration into a KV configuration and simulated flight test in support of the Multiple Kill Vehicle program. "Aerojet is proud to offer more than 20 years of hardware development, qualification and production under MDA programs," said Aerojet's Manager of Programs, Warren Yasuhara. "Our experience results in high mission assurance and a low-cost approach for future applications."
