It covers an area of 325 square kilometres, feeds three oceans and eight major glaciers - it is no wonder the Columbia Icefield Glacier Experience has become a sought out activity for approximately half a million visitors each year*. With this exposure comes a commitment to protect the environment, which is exactly what Brewster has done since it first started operating tours onto the glacier as far back as the early 1920's. In recognition for its efforts, Brewster has been awarded the 2008 Recycling Council of Alberta R's of Excellence Award. The award is designed to recognize outstanding contributions to recycling in the province of Alberta.
"We are thrilled to be recognized by an organization like the Recycling Council of Alberta," says Andrew Whittick, Director of Corporate Development, Brewster Inc. "This award reflects the hard work of several Brewster employees and their dedicated environmental stewardship efforts."
On average per week, Brewster recycles 240lbs of glass, 24lbs of plastic, 2lbs of poly coat, 16lbs of aluminum, 20lbs of paper and 612 lbs of cardboard at the attraction. An extensive recycling program is just one example of Brewster's environmental stewardship program. Specific information on the company's other practices at the Columbia Icefield can be found at www.brewster.ca/about-brewster/environmental.aspx.
The Recycling Council of Alberta (RCA) is a not-for-profit, non-political organization that promotes and facilitates waste reduction, recycling, and resource conservation in the Province of Alberta. More information can be found at http://www.recycle.ab.ca.
