Ms. Phyllis Campbell, President/CEO of the Seattle Foundation, was the Keynote Speaker at Clark Nuber's Not-for-Profit Governance Conference on October 17th at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. Ms. Campbell spoke on The Role of the Nonprofit Board in Turbulent Times to an audience of not-for-profit organization board members, Executive Directors, CFOs, and accounting professionals. In her speech, Ms. Campbell presented her views on the current economic crisis, who is watching the not-for-profit sector, board responsibilities, the importance of "tone at the top," accountability and transparency, and the need for effective crisis management. Ms. Campbell also emphasized that diversity of thought on boards and generative leadership will be critically important in the years to come, as a massive group of leaders retire.
Ms. Campbell holds an MBA from the University of Washington's Executive MBA Program, BA in Business Administration from Washington State University, and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington, as well as Stanford University's Executive Management Program. She also holds honorary doctorates from Whitworth College and Gonzaga University.
