ST. LOUIS, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Patriot Coal Corporation today announced that it has received three awards from the Kentucky Department for Natural Resources. Patriot's Highland underground mine and Grand Eagle surface mine and preparation plant each received awards for best safety performance in the West Kentucky region for the year ended September 30, 2008. Additionally, the Grand Eagle surface mine received an award for its reclamation efforts. The safety awards were earned by mines that exhibited the lowest accident frequency, the lowest number of violations per inspection shift, and the best overall safety performance.
