Attachmate Corporation today announced its commitment to the development of technology to support a standardized systems platform for agent-facing common-use implementations at airports, a new standard currently being developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA.) As the airline industry works to make airport gates and ticket counters common use to manage passenger check-in and boarding passes, the Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS) platform was enacted to enable multiple airlines and service providers the ability to share physical check-in or gate podium positions.
Attachmate is in the process of developing the latest version of its INFOConnect® Enterprise Edition for Airlines Print and Transaction Router (PTR32), a flexible print delivery software solution designed for multi-device airline and travel industry networks with a new interface that complements the CUPPS platform. PTR32 can be used to print data such as boarding passes, luggage tags and tickets from virtually any source to any peripheral device providing functionality previously provided solely on specialized terminals.
"This is an exciting time in the airline industry. The CUPPS initiative signals a technological evolution with regards to the common use environment," said Amy Foltz, CUPPS project manager for Continental Airlines. "Attachmate's solutions will play a key role to help us easily migrate to the CUPPS platform."
PTR32 complements Attachmate® INFOConnect Enterprise Edition 9.0 which modernizes existing mainframe applications out of the box by improving information flow, enhancing user productivity and lowering total cost of ownership.
"Attachmate is committed to developing solutions to help our airline customers easily adopt the CUPPS platform," said Barbara Ballard, product manager for Attachmate. "PTR32 offers airlines unparalleled bi-directional print delivery, support for multiple peripheral devices and has been certified to work with all CUTE vendors to ensure airlines have control over agent-facing print transactions."
The CUPPS platform is scheduled to be rolled out in a pilot program across the U.S. in February of 2009 with several airports and airlines committed to participate.
