WHY: The Settlement 100 effort began three years ago, in anticipation of the School's historic Centennial year. The Settlement 100 is a roster of interesting diverse and unexpected individuals whose experiences at Settlement affected or changed their lives and their stories have been told throughout the past three years. Among those honored are a Nobel Laureate, a MacArthur Fellow, three Pulitzer Prize winners, two Academy Award winners, several elected officials and many distinguished performers in all genres of music. Settlement Music School is the largest community school of the arts in the United States and for 100 years has opened its doors to anyone looking to enrich their lives through music. With six locations in two states, the School annually serves more than 15,000 students of all abilities regardless of age, race or financial means and awards close to $2 million in aid each year. |
