ACAROLOGIST THOMAS KOLLARS INVENTS MOSQUITO CONTROL TRAP - Readers know Dr. Thomas Kollars, Director, Biodefense and Infectious Disease Laboratory Georgia Southern University, Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, Cone Hall room 1006, Herty Drive Statesboro, GA 30460-8015 (tkollars@georgiasouthern.edu), not only for his work on ticks or creating music tunes using ticks (see previous issue of IJA news), but Kollars has informed IJA that recently he has invented, patented and licensed a mosquito control trap called the "ProVectorTM" to MIT Holdings, Inc., a Medical Company in Savannah Georgia, USA. His trap uses Bt bait in a flower like device that adult mosquitoes feed on and die within a few days. He also has anti-malaria and anti-dengue versions of ProVector that do not kill the mosquito but kill the pathogen inside the mosquito. Kollars reports that the Bt version testing is complete and ready to go to market. Anyone interested in distributing his system in a country, should contact Dr. Kollars.
