VANCOUVER, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Roca Mines Inc. (ROK: TSX-V) ("Roca" or "the Company") announces that it will extend the planned Christmas shutdown of its MAX mill and concentrator, originally scheduled between December 12 and 29, 2008, to now restart on January 19, 2009.
The extension is a direct result of a rockfall that occurred underground at the mine on December 4, 2008 that has impacted the availability of production ore.
The rockfall was localized to the stope development area of the 875 level. No workers were present on the level at the time and no one was harmed. The rockfall poses no threat to other working areas of the mine, but does impact the immediate production schedule. A review and investigation of the rockfall event has been undertaken by the Company's geotechnical consultants, inspectors from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and senior Roca staff.
