In its December issue, Newport's Heavy Duty Trucking magazine selected the Goodyear Unisteel G316 LHT tire with DuraSeal Technology for its Nifty Fifty Award, one of 50 new products selected on its "usefulness to the truck operator in terms of innovation, serviceability and performance." Previously, Goodyear's G395 steer tire and early applications of DuraSeal - on the G287 and G288 tires - were honored with the Nifty Fifty recognition.
This year, DuraSeal Technology was introduced in the Unisteel G316 LHT line-haul trailer tire. A tire with Goodyear's exclusive DuraSeal features a gel that quickly seals punctures up to a quarter-inch in diameter in the reparable tread area.
Joseph Copeland, vice president of Goodyear commercial tire systems, said the company's self-sealing tire innovation is focused on truck drivers working in tough environments, as well as lowering a trucking fleet's overall cost of operations.
"Certainly, we are very pleased with the recognition of the new application of DuraSeal. It is confirmation that this technology is delivering great performance and value for our customers."
Citing the expansion of the very popular DuraSeal self-sealing technology into a new commercial application, Heavy Duty Trucking editors wrote: "Already proven in mixed-service applications, such as logging, construction and mining, the technology uses a gel-like, solvent-free compound built into the inner liner of the tire."
Goodyear commercial tire systems offer complete products and services to the trucking industry, including a full range of original equipment and replacement tires. In addition, the company's cradle-to-grave tire and service network includes retreading, tire management tools and business solutions for tomorrow's trucking fleets.
