CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As the peanut butter recall situation continues, Lance, Inc. is reaching out to consumers for a third time since the peanut butter story crossed media airwaves.
The following is a statement from David Singer, President and CEO of Lance.
"I want to continue to reassure consumers that Lance(R) peanut butter sandwich crackers, peanuts and peanut bars are not part of the FDA's salmonella investigation and are not part of the expanded recall. We do not use peanuts, peanut butter or peanut butter paste from Peanut Corp. of America (the supplier at the center of this investigation) in any products carrying the Lance brand name.
Furthermore, we have been concerned with national stories suggesting consumers throw away all products containing peanut butter, when in fact there are a number of peanut butter products that are not part of the recall.
In this difficult economic time, Lance does not want consumers needlessly throwing away food that is not part of the recall and is safe to eat.
As the largest U.S. producer of peanut butter sandwich crackers, Lance makes 100% of the peanut butter used in our Lance brand sandwich crackers. We have a strict, in-depth quality control program that includes extensive testing of our peanut butter at multiple phases of the production process.
In recent days we have received a growing number of calls and e-mails from consumers wondering if they can consume Lance products. Lance brand sandwich crackers, peanuts and peanut bars are safe to eat and should not be discarded."
Lance makes eight peanut butter sandwich cracker varieties which can continue to be found on store shelves and remain safe to eat: ToastChee, Reduced Fat ToastChee, Toasty, Reduced Fat Toasty, Captain's Wafers Peanut Butter and Honey, Malt Peanut Butter, Wheat Crackers with Peanut Butter, and Nekot. Lance brand peanut products include: Salted Peanuts, Peanut Bar, Honey Toasted Peanuts, Hot-n-Spicy Peanuts and Roasted Peanuts.
